About¶
Hi there đź‘‹, I'm Leon!
Nice to meet you! I'm CTO at Literal Labs.
Once upon a time (well, not that long ago), I was the Deep Learning Platform Lead at AstraZeneca. My main mission there was to avoid slowing down a brilliant AI team who were busy hunting for biomarkers in all sorts of medical data—mostly for oncology. I had the pleasure (and sometimes the challenge) of learning about fascinating medical imaging techniques like Multiplex immunofluorescence (mIF), CT, and MRI. It was a real privilege to work alongside a group of world-class, motivated, and genuinely lovely people—honestly, I count myself very lucky.
My days were spent building self-supervised learning workflows and machine learning pipelines, all while navigating the labyrinthine world of a large organisation. I did my best to make sure everyone was having a good time and, crucially, that we were actually delivering value (and not just more meetings).
If we rewind a bit further, I went from being one of ~70,000 at AstraZeneca to one of just 7 at HyperSurfaces. There, I dived into AI research and engineering, working on TinyML (deep neural networks on tiny devices) before TensorFlow Lite made it all look easy. I got to collaborate with some fantastic folks, including Parag Mital - from whom I shamelessly stole my .vimrc
and .tmux.conf
- and Bruno Zamborlin, among others.
Before all that, I was at Goldsmiths, University of London, training unconditional generative neural networks and generally having a great time exploring the frontiers of AI.
I’m passionate about all things Artificial Intelligence - news, research, engineering, and software development in general. I'm afraid I'm a Brit, but these days I call Spain home and enjoy wandering around the EU. If you fancy a chat about AI, tech, or just want to swap Vim tips, do say hello!
